"In 1907, after having refused the pulpit of the Temple Emanu-el because its pulpit was subject to and under the control of the Board of Trustees of the Congregation, Rabbi Wise founded the Free Synagogue....Dr. Wise was one of the founders of the Zionist movements... also one of the founders of the American Jewish Congress. In 1922 Dr. Wise founded the Jewish Institute of Religion, a school for the training if men for the Jewish ministry." Previously: 1st services, Hudson Theatre (1907); Unitarian Church, West 83rd used (1908-09); at Carnegie Hall (1910-1923).
